Your generous donation to the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science helps provide support for research that addresses the most urgent problems in health and medicine, technology, agriculture, and the environment. Basic research by Weizmann Institute scientists is helping fight disease, combat hunger, create innovative technologies, protect our planet, harness alternative sources of clean energy, and much more. Some of our notable milestones and achievements are listed below – see more here.

- The original Sieff Institute, located among sand dunes and orange groves, consisted of two main research branches—organic chemistry and biochemistry—and 11 full-time scientists.
- Today, the Weizmann Institute of Science is a world-class science and technology research center situated on a 300-acre campus with 80 buildings, 18 research departments, and almost 40 interdisciplinary research centers.
- More than 10 million people are diagnosed with cancer annually. Cancer causes 6 million deaths every year—or 12 percent of deaths worldwide. In response to these startling statistics, more than 50 percent of all life sciences research at the Weizmann Institute is cancer-related.
- Weizmann Institute discoveries have led to the creation of dozens of companies and thousands of new jobs in Israel. Products emanating from Weizmann research account for a major portion of Israel’s high-tech economy.
- Weizmann Institute scientists applied for nearly 750 patents over the last 10 years.
- 97 percent of the Earth’s water supply is too salty for drinking or irrigation. Weizmann researchers are developing efficient consumption and management methods to face this challenge.
- The Institute is equipped with one of the world’s most advanced solar research facilities, enabling scientists to develop new ways to use the sun’s energy.
- The World Health Organization puts hunger number one on the list of the top health risks. Agricultural research at Weizmann is helping to feed the world.
- The Institute’s 2,600 scientists, students, technicians, and supporting staff pursue basic science and technology research in the quest for knowledge and to improve human life.
- Today, Weizmann Institute scientists stand among the most respected in the world. Their basic research is cited frequently in scientific publications, matching, or in some fields exceeding, references to scientists from the top 10 U.S. universities.
- The Institute is committed to three primary education goals: nurturing future scientists by enabling current students to get the best science education possible; educating every Israeli citizen about science; and investing in the professional development of science teachers.
- Weizmann is home to the world’s first interactive outdoor science museum—the award-winning Clore Garden of Science—which welcomes nearly 100,000 guests annually.
- The Institute plays a leading role in Israel’s science education efforts in Hebrew- and Arabic-speaking schools. Activities range from new curricula, textbooks, games, and computer materials to science field schools and teacher training. Weizmann publishes learning materials in Hebrew and translates them into other languages, including over 300 science and math teaching materials and educational games and software packages.
