Weizmann Global Gathering 2014: Partners in Innovation, Prof. Israel Bar-Joseph

• TAGS: Leadership, Philanthropy

Prof. Israel Bar-Joseph, the Weizmann Institute’s Vice President for Resource Development, opens the “Partners in Innovation” session of the 2014 Global Gathering. Speaking at Rockefeller University, he outlines the trajectory young scientists take through higher education, then postdoctoral studies – all of which can take 15 years – before even starting their careers in research. Weizmann leadership keeps an eye on the top students, hoping to bring them to campus. This recruitment stage is critical, as the Institute is vying with the world’s top institutions for the very best scientists. As Prof. Bar-Joseph says, it is at this point that things are “very competitive” and that philanthropic support is most needed to build the scientific teams that will maintain the Institute in the future.
