Each summer, the Kupcinet-Getz International Science School offers outstanding undergraduate students from around the world the opportunity to spend two months conducting research at the Weizmann Institute. For Alice Chudnovsky, now a sophomore at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, participating in the program was the opportunity of a lifetime. Here, Alice reflects on her transformative summer at Weizmann, her passion for Israel and mathematics, and her efforts to encourage women in her field.

The Weizmann Institute formally opened the new David Lopatie Conference Centre in a gala event on Nov. 13 honoring its South African donor. The Centre was heralded a future venue for international scientific conferences that will shine a spotlight on the Institute and its cutting-edge research.
Located prominently at the campus entrance, the Centre represents the renovation and transformation of the former Wix Library into a state-of-the-art facility that will also host meetings of the International and Executive Board, the Scientific Council, the Council of Professors, and Promotion committees. In addition, it will be the new home of the Barbara Levinson Visitors Center and the offices of the Academic Secretariat.

The graduation ceremony of the first class of the Schwartz/Reisman Science Education Centre, Rehovot, took place on June 29 in the Clore Garden of Science on the Weizmann Institute of Science campus. Participating were Weizmann Institute of Science President Prof. Daniel Zajfman, Rehovot Deputy Mayor Zohar Blum and Ness Ziona Mayor Yossi Shavo. Also present were the 207 twelfth-graders who had completed their final matriculation exam in physics. “When you learn physics,” said Prof. Zajfman, “you are learning a way of thinking. Graduates of the Schwartz/Reisman Science Education Centre, Rehovot, can now do anything they desire. Special thanks to the most important people – the teachers,” he continued. “Teaching is the only profession that allows all the other professions to exist. Without people who commit themselves to helping our children to build their futures, we would not succeed in attaining ours.”
