On April 2, Patricia Gruber presented the 13th annual Gruber Award for Scientific Excellence to the Weizmann Institute’s Dr. Sivan Refaely-Abramson. Established by Patricia and her late husband, Peter, through their Gruber Foundation, the three-year award recognizes brilliant early-career Weizmann scientists.
New Weizmann faculty members require significant support to establish their labs and launch their careers. By empowering these “bright lights,” as Patricia calls them, the Grubers understood that they were making a worthy investment in the future of science.

Mar 21, 2019... The Midwest Region’s annual Gala Dinner took place at The Geraghty in Chicago with over 600 guests in attendance. Local civic and community leaders came together to honor Michael Polsky, Founder and CEO of Invenergy. A dedicated philanthropist and energy industry pioneer, Mr. Polsky received the Weizmann Leadership Award. The evening’s program, emceed by ABC 7 reporter Janet Davies, also consisted of presentations by University of Chicago President Robert Zimmer and Prof. Avigdor Scherz, Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, who discussed his cutting-edge cancer research. Chaired by Janet and Steven Anixter and JoAnn Anixter Silva, the highly successful gala raised over $1.3 million in support of the Weizmann Institute.

Conferment of Degrees 2014, Feinberg Graduate School
NEW YORK, NY—January 13, 2015—The American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science is pleased to announce the award of $700,000 by the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA) program to support student training at the Feinberg Graduate School (FGS) at the Weizmann Institute of Science, in Rehovot, Israel. The award, made to the Trustees of the Feinberg Graduate School, will help the school improve and develop instructional and research activities in genome-based biomedicine and other important academic programs.

"Larry" Marks, dedicated advocates for the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science, have been appointed co-chairs of its Bay Area Region. They succeed Dr. Jay A. Levy, who has served as the region's chair for 10 years. In their new roles, Dr. Monroy and Mr. Marks will spearhead efforts to develop philanthropic support for the Weizmann Institute of Science. Located in Israel, the Weizmann Institute is one of the world's top-ranking centers of multidisciplinary science research and graduate study.

Apr 28, 2016... Six outstanding students from the Institute’s Feinberg Graduate School (FGS) traveled across the Atlantic for the second U.S. “Scientists of Tomorrow” tour. Three students, accompanied by Feinberg’s Director and Academic Secretary Dr. Ami Shalit, visited Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Denver, Boulder, and Chicago. Three others, joined by Kelly Avidan, the Institute’s Director of Resource Development and Secretary of the Association, went to Florida and New York.

In the eighth episode of Weizmann in Focus, CEO Dave Doneson explains how Weizmann is helping to fight this terrible disease. Using computer-based tools, PhD student Adi Goldenzweig developed a groundbreaking malaria vaccine in the lab of Dr. Sarel Fleishman. Because the vaccine is inexpensive to produce and does not require refrigeration, it has the potential to help millions of people in developing countries where the battle against malaria is particularly devastating.

On Tuesday, February 23rd, 2016, the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science hosted the first Women for Science (W4S) virtual conference. Spanning four time zones and attracting over 100 participants, the conference linked attendees to the Weizmann Institute campus from seven video conferencing sites across the U.S. – New York City, San Francisco, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, North Miami, FL, and Coral Gables, FL. Live from Rehovot, Prof. Idit Shachar, Head of the Department of Immunology and incumbent of the Dr. Morton and Anne Kleiman Professorial Chair, discussed the role of immune cells in health and disease.
