Yet researchers have had a hard time pinpointing where, exactly, in the brain these differences between the sexes are located and how they translate into behavior. The extent of “hardwired parental behavior” is hotly disputed.

A new study in Israel finds that a woman’s tears have a physical and psychological effect on men.  The scientists involved in the study say they were surprised that tears lower a man’s sex drive. Some women here in Washington are surprised with the findings, too.
A woman’s tears not only invoke romance in Hollywood, Mamie Parker says she’s experienced first hand what her tears can do to a man. “If I cry they just seem to be more affectionate or touchy-feely and in some cases more sexy,” she said.

Dec 07, 2016... Drug cocktails, such as those for treating cancer, are best when the proper ingredients are mixed in the right proportions – just like the alcoholic versions offered at the local bar. And like the cocktails we normally drink, the sum of the parts can be better than the ingredients on their own – or we can be left with unwanted side effects. Published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science (PNAS), a new model developed in the group of Prof. Uri Alon of the Weizmann Institute of Science’s Department of Molecular Cell Biology can simplify the process of identifying the optimal blends for drug cocktails – even when a large number of ingredients is called for.

Scientists know that circadian rhythms affect metabolism, but many of the ways in which the timing of eating can influence health are still unknown. Now, researchers from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel and the Sanford-Burnam Medical Resarch Institute in Florida have shown in mice that the timing of meals affects the levels of triglycerides in the liver. The work was published last week (February 5) in Cell Metabolism.

According to a Weizmann Institute of Science study reported in the November 19 issue of the journal Cell, the answer varies from one person to another. The study, which continuously monitored blood sugar levels in 800 people for a week, revealed that the bodily response to all foods was highly individual.

But your microbiomes – the combined genes of all the trillions of microbes that share your body – have shifted since the sun came up this morning. And they will change again before the next sunrise.
Christoph Thaiss from the Weizmann Institute of Science has discovered that the communities of microbes in out guts vary on a daily cycle. Some species rise to the fore during daylight hours and recede into the background at night, while others show the opposite pattern.

In a surprise finding that was recently published in Nature Communications, Weizmann Institute of Science researchers showed that nighttime is the right time for cancer to grow and spread in the body. Their findings suggest that administering certain treatments in time with the body’s day-night cycle could boost their efficiency.
