Apr 16, 2019... The Weizmann Institute brings together scientists from a variety of disciplines to tackle cancer head-on. In the fourth episode of Weizmann in Focus, CEO Dave Doneson highlights a recent headline-making breakthrough from the labs of Profs. Ido Amit and Amos Tanay. Working with hospitals across Israel, the scientists identified a very small number of malignant cells in what is considered a pre-malignant stage of multiple myeloma—the second-most common type of blood cancer. Their discovery holds the promise of earlier, more precise treatment.

A $20 million gift from the D. Dan and Betty Kahn Foundation of Michigan will expand collaboration among researchers at the Weizmann Institute of Science, the University of Michigan, and the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology to help enhance quality of life through advancements in robotics and precision health.

The Weizmann Institute of Science, located in Rehovot, Israel, is one of the world’s leading centers of multidisciplinary scientific research.

NEW YORK, NY—November 30, 2017—At its annual meeting, the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science announced that its Board of Directors had elected a new President, David Teplow of Weston, MA. He succeeds outgoing President Dr. Jay A. Levy of San Francisco, CA, who completed two terms of service.
Mr. Teplow, in collaboration with National Chair Ellen Merlo and CEO Marshall S. Levin, will spearhead the American Committee’s efforts to generate awareness of and philanthropic support for the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel, a world-renowned center of scientific research and graduate study.

Nov 15, 2017... The Midwest Region hosted a memorable Gala Dinner under the theme of “Breakthrough: Celebrating Discoveries. Shaping Tomorrow.” More than 500 community and industry leaders came together at the Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park to honor Jeffrey S. Aronin, Chairman and CEO of Paragon Biosciences, LLC. An entrepreneur, innovator and investor, Mr. Aronin received the American Committee’s Weizmann Leadership Award in recognition of his dedication to improving lives through his community and philanthropic endeavors. National and Midwest Regional Board members Dr. Marilyn Perlman and Brian Price once again served as event chairs, and WGN Radio’s Ilyce Glink served as emcee. Watch the full program, which featured a tribute to Mr. Aronin and the announcement of a new career development chair at the Institute.

Their destination: the Dr. Bessie F. Lawrence International Summer Science Institute (ISSI), a highly competitive program that enables high-school grads, over the summer before they start university, to take part in hands-on research alongside world-renowned scientists.
