Apr 15, 2024... REHOVOT, ISRAEL—April 15, 2024—The Weizmann Institute of Science, in a joint initiative with the Miriam and Aaron Gutwirth Fund, is set to establish a medical school, through which it will launch a unique program to train the next generation of physician-scientists. The program, which will be open to graduates and postgraduates, will each year accept up to 40 students, who will earn an MD-PhD at the end of their studies. Researchers accepted into the program will take part in Weizmann’s scientific research activity and will undergo clinical training at medical centers across Israel. These will include the government-run hospitals Sheba Medical Center – which was the first to join the program and helped design and build it – and the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov), as well as hospitals run by the Clalit Health Services. Registration for the program, which is awaiting final approval from the Council for Higher Education, is expected to open at the end of 2024; studies are expected to commence in October 2025.
May 24, 2021... With their 65th wedding anniversary approaching in June, Rosa and Harris Weinstein decided to mark the occasion with a gift to the Weizmann Institute. The couple believes deeply in the Institute’s vital mission, but their reasons are more personal. They wanted to honor Dewey Stone, one of the American Committee’s earliest visionaries who helped realize Dr. Chaim Weizmann’s dream of a world-class scientific research institution in Israel.
Nov 09, 2021... REHOVOT, ISRAEL—November 9, 2021—The Weizmann Institute of Science is thrilled to announce a lead philanthropic donation of $50 million (USD) from the Azrieli Foundation. The historic gift will enable catalytic brain research with the establishment of The Azrieli Institute for Brain and Neural Sciences. The donation is among the largest of its kind for the Foundation. The Azrieli Foundation is a longstanding supporter of research at the Weizmann Institute, and this generous donation adds to its past philanthropic investments of nearly $30 million in Weizmann research facilities and faculty and student fellowships.
