Founded in 1944, the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science develops philanthropic support for the Weizmann Institute in Israel, and advances its mission of science for the benefit of humanity.
Jul 09, 2018... REHOVOT, ISRAEL—July 9, 2018—The Weizmann Institute of Science has placed ninth in an international ranking of research quality. This is the second time that the Institute has ranked in the top 10 best research institutes in the world. (The Institute placed 10th in the 2015 ranking.) The assessment comes from the annual Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) Leiden Ranking, Leiden University, the Netherlands.
Aug 21, 2014... Speaking at a TEDx event at the Weizmann Institute, Prof. Ron Milo – while today a plant scientist – talks about the magic of numbers; for example, the only way to truly understand the difference between hot and cold is to know that there's a 10 percent difference in the vibration of select molecules. We can use this numerical intuition to better understand our own biology.

The next head of the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot, Israel, says science can "bridge cultural differences" and should "never be a tool of politics."
In December, particle physicist Daniel Zajfman, 47, will become the 10th—and youngest ever—president of the 72-year-old institute. Zajfman, who has been at Weizmann for 15 years, wants to strengthen curiosity-driven research and preserve "complete academic freedom."
Aug 26, 2019... Eliana had a rarefied summer working in the Boris Rybtchinski Lab in the Department of Organic Chemistry at Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel. “My research is in the ‘sustainable nanomaterials’ portion of what the lab does. We combine carbon nanotubes with organic dye nanocrystals to produce a hybrid nanocomposite in the form of a thin film that is electrically conductive and mechanically robust.” These films can be deposited on many surfaces and used as electrodes in energy storage devices. “I worked on a method which recycles the excess dye and solvent in order to make it more environmentally friendly when taken to industrial manufacturing.”
Oct 10, 2005... NEW YORK, NY—October 10, 2005—The Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel, and New York University have joined forces to present a special forum on neural science. Four leaders in this dynamic field will explain some of the latest developments in brain research to a select group of invited guests. We’re well into the New Year and many of us have resolved to get fit in 2020 … but does the time we work out make a difference? In the latest episode of Weizmann in Focus, Dave Doneson discusses the research of Dr. Gad Asher, who studies the effects of our biological clocks on everything from fitness to jetlag to liver disease.
Find out Dr. Asher’s take on whether mornings or evenings are the best time to hit the gym. Please share the video with friends via email or social media.

Among the farmers, labourers, religious zealots and political refugees who washed up on the shores of British-controlled Palestine during the inter-war period was German architect Erich Mendelsohn. Fleeing the rise of Nazism, Mendelsohn landed in the Levant in 1934, leaving behind a decade’s worth of prominent commissions in both Germany and Britain.
In Palestine, then a country in the making, Mendelsohn found an unblemished canvas on which he could inscribe an evolving aesthetic as much informed by his sophisticated past as by his idealistic visions for the nation’s future. Emboldened by the potential of this desert utopia and lauded by its nascent intellectual class, the modernist Mendelsohn unabashedly enthroned himself as Palestine’s chief architect. ‘Palestine of today symbolises a union between the most modern civilisation and a most antique culture,’ he wrote. ‘It is the place where intellect, vision, matter and spirit meet.’

For 86-year-old Prof. Ruth Arnon, nothing compares to waking up in the morning and going to work in the laboratory.
When it comes to being excited by experiments, age is simply not a factor for the world-renowned Weizmann Institute of Science biochemist and co-creator of multiple sclerosis drug Copaxone.
Born in Tel Aviv in 1933, Arnon’s academic background was in biochemistry, but she worked her entire career to advance a chemical approach to immunology.

On April 2, Patricia Gruber presented the 13th annual Gruber Award for Scientific Excellence to the Weizmann Institute’s Dr. Sivan Refaely-Abramson. Established by Patricia and her late husband, Peter, through their Gruber Foundation, the three-year award recognizes brilliant early-career Weizmann scientists.
New Weizmann faculty members require significant support to establish their labs and launch their careers. By empowering these “bright lights,” as Patricia calls them, the Grubers understood that they were making a worthy investment in the future of science.

In preparation for pitching their business ideas to a panel later in the week, fifty Girl Scouts recently visited Science House to be mentored. We brainstormed on the walls of the Imagination Room and listened as pairs of teams told us about their business ideas developed as part of their program with the Athena Center for Leadership Studies at Barnard College.
