On October 18, 2023, Prof. Alon Chen, President of the Weizmann Institute of Science, and Prof. Roee Ozeri, VP for Development and Communications, hosted a special Zoom meeting to share an update with the global Weizmann community.
With attendees from Los Angeles to London, Toronto to Tel Aviv, Sydney to São Paulo, Prof. Chen offered his gratitude for the unwavering support, friendship, and solidarity shown to both Israel and the Weizmann Institute following the horrific events that befell Israel on October 7.

On October 31, 2023, Prof. Rony Paz, Head of the Department of Brain Sciences at the Azrieli Institute for Brain and Neural Sciences at the Weizmann Institute, hosted a special Zoom for the global Weizmann community.
The first in a Zoom series called “Weizmann on the Home Front,” Prof. Paz’s discussion focused on “Trauma, Anxiety, and Post-Trauma in the Shadow of October 7.”
After expressing his gratitude for the valuable support from the international community, Prof. Paz shared his personal experience, his experiences as Dean of the Faculty in Biology, and a brief Weizmann management update (following the October 18 Zoom Israel at War: An update from the Weizmann Institute of Science). He also shared his scientific research relevant to the current circumstances, particularly the brain’s response to facing uncertainty and adverse events and the formation of trauma and post-trauma.

On November 21, three scientists from the Weizmann Institute hosted the third installment of the “Weizmann on the Home Front" Zoom series for the global Weizmann Community. The topic was Israeli academia in wartime.
The conversation focused on the ripple effect the war is having on Israeli academia and on Israeli and Jewish academics around the world.
The speakers were Prof. Ruth Scherz-Shouval from the Department of Biomolecular Sciences, Prof. Michal Neeman from the Department of Immunology and Regenerative Biology, and Prof. Roee Ozeri, VP for Development and Communications.

Weizmann Institute President Prof. Alon Chen, a renowned scientist in the study of stress, was joined by Prof. Orit Nuttman-Shwartz, founder of the School of Social Work at Sapir College in Israel, who studies the effect of continuous and shared exposure to security threats on individuals, families, and communities.
